Courtney Thomson’s design skills have clinched her first prize in a poster competition.

The 11-year-old pipped other pupils from Braunstone Frith School, Leicester, to the top prize after impressing judges with her drawing skills in the Midlands Cooperative Society competition.

Students were tasked with creating a poster to show off the supermarket chain’s green credentials. None of its stores send any food waste or packaging to landfill.

Courtney designed the poster after visiting the Sharmon Crescent food store in Braunstone Frith, Leicester, to see how the recycling process took place. She was presented with her prize of artists materials and a gift voucher by supervisor Gary Weston.

Gary said: “I’m delighted to be able to share our success with the pupils. We appreciated the time and effort all the pupils put into their posters. It’s been great fun working with the school and I plan to keep in touch to see how I might be able to offer further support.”
